The main location for the Northampton Council on Aging is located at 240 Main Street in downtown Northampton. In April 2004 a satellite site was established at the Florence Congregational Church (FCC) at 130 Pine Street in Florence. Both sites are accessible for persons with disabilites. Notices and postings of NCOA events will provide information regarding location.
The Council on Aging opens its doors to Northampton seniors on a daily basis Mon-Fri from 9:00-4:00. Services that are offered include:
- Friendly staff for your assistance
- Large variety of books to read and books on tape to borrow. Also, morning newspaper and large assortment of magazines for your reading pleasure
- Hot coffee every morning and coffee social every Tues.
- Card tables for any card or board game. Current games include: Cribbage, Bridge, and Michigan Rummy
- Games such as Scrabble and Chess
- Computers available, also computer tutors for individual assistance
- Billiard Pool Table and Dart Board at your service in the "Games Room", as well as a quiet room to read
- Special Interest groups such as Needlework, and creative writing that meet regularly
- Day Trips and travel opportunities! Many to choose from each month.
- Off site opportunities include bowling, walking group, pitch and bingo games
- PVTA Photo ID's for van service
- Classes (for a fee) Tap, Tai Chi, Exercise, more to come…
The Director, Program Coordinator and Social Worker are full-time 35-hour-a-week positions. All other staff are part time: Secretary/Clerk (20 hours), Home Repair Coordinator (15 hours), Home Repair Inspector (14 hours) and Van Driver (16 hours).
